Two Days of Oahu’s Finest!

Aloha Everyone,

The past two days have been really nice and I’ve had some fun people to share the adventures with. Yesterday Megan and I finished up her Open Water course and got some great dives in. Our first was at Turtle Canyons where Meg got to see her favorites….. EELS! Got a great close-up of a Honu too, enjoy the photos!

Next we hit Kewalo Pipe up. Great visibility and lots of little finds like a couple of nudibranchs, several wrasses and one happy student! We also spotted this white mouth moray, another one of Meg’s favorite critters.

Today I met with Matt early in the AM to do some wreck diving. The Sea Tiger was calling our names and good thing too, because we battled the current to find a territorial yellow margain moray, devil scorpionfish and a homebody of an octopus. Great second dive over at Nautalus too. First off we spotted a small shark under the ledge and we even got to see two turtles getting it on!

Thanks so much for diving with me everyone. Hope to see you out sometime soon!

Aloha,

First timers…..

Today the Kaimana Krew was back in action. Divemaster Ski joined me to help out with Megan’s course. This girl may be a bit on the quiet side, but I think we converted her to a full blown dive junkie today….. Sorry Meg, no cell phones when we go diving!

With a bit of trial and error, Meg did awesome figuring out her bouyancy on the first dive. She even got a chance to check out a sleeping turtle, some gargantuan moray eels (whitemouth, viper and yellowmargain) and got some serious bottom time in (almost an hour!) Here’s our buddy from our first dive.

Our next dive found us over at Horseshoe reef. We got a great look at a small white tip reef shark under the ledge and two turtles on the way to the mother load of the day…… OCTOPUS!

All in all, we had an awesome day. Thanks so much to the gals on the Kahala Kai, and a big congrats to Megan for finishing her first few dives! Does it look like she had fun?

Aloha,

Gabe @ KD

M O N K S E A L ! ! !

Hell yeah!

Today I got to go diving in Hawaii Kai with Chris and Lisa…… two Kaimana Divers allstars. Great dives too. Captain Joe took us right to China Wall because his Captain Navigation told him that there was something cool there. Check this out!

After a great swim with this endangered Hawaiian Monk Seal we almost totally forgot about the shark and turtles we saw earlier in the dive. Next up was Baby Barge and even though this wreck is breaking down a bit she still has tons of life on her. Look how happy Lisa was!

The day ended with us sitting down at the Shack and enjoying a great lunch. Two awesome friends, two great dives and two servings of cole slaw…… life doesn’t get much better than this!

Aloha,

Gabe @ KD

Quick Quiz….

Which one of the following photos is a student taking their PADI Open Water Course with Kaimana Divers?

A
B
C

You know the answer is D….. All of the above!

Congrats to Bret and Harrison, latest grads of the Kaimana Divers school of diving. We had perfect conditions in Waikiki today and water temps are almost to the point where I might not wear a wetsuit! Nah, I’m too much of a wuss.

Aloha and big Mahalos to the boys for working so hard to get their courses done!

North Shore Shark Encounters

Sorry so late in getting this post up….. everyone was on alert this weekend because they knew that Sunday I was headed up to the North Shore to go out and dive with our shark friends.

First off, let me just say that everyone at Hawaii Shark Encounters puts on a complete, educational tour….. big ups to Cap Juan and Ocean for getting it together! If you haven’t done this trip yet, it is NOT to be missed.

Now, on to the good stuff. We had a full boat and some bouncy seas but when we arrived at the cage we were stoked. As many of you know I have waited my entire life to do this and it was pretty hard for me to fall asleep the night before. Juan gave us a great report of his morning trip with several Galapagos Sharks and one large female Tiger Shark.

In total I counted about 10 galapagos sharks and a very gentle giant, the Tiger Shark. At times she was close enough to reach out and touch and I managed to capture these snaps while in the cage…..

I also got a little BONUS FOOTAGE of a friend, some meat and a Tiger Shark on video….. ENJOY!

Summer South Shore Perfection…..

Great day to be out scuba diving in Hawaii.

Jay and Thomas came out this afternoon and what a perfect one it was! Light breeze, beautiful deep blue water and very little surface chop. Our trip started off great with Jason working on his German/Canadian accent with Thomas…..

When we got in at Turtle Canyons, I couldn’t believe the visibility. Had to be 75feet at times and loads of turtles….

Jay found two massive eels too, one whitemouth and another a viper moray. Thomas, you could have fooled me, looks like you have been diving every week for the past year….. can you believe this kid hasn’t been diving in SIX YEARS?

Finally, after raving about how cool Octopus are and bumming Thomas out because we didn’t see one on the first dive it was off to Horseshoe reef. We got super lucky here and found 3 octopus, our little white tip reef shark and heaps of Hawaii reef fish. Thanks again for taking me diving boys…. can’t wait till our next one. In the mean time, I’ll be looking out for ya, just like this little bugger!

Sharks Cove….. with Sharks!

Hit two great dives up today. After getting to sharks cove early(ish) I was stoked to be diving with Ben, Kevin, Jay and Steve. Also Tony, Sarah, James, Mark and dive duo Scott and Linda joined us for the day. Even though raindrops seemed to come on and off we didn’t mind, I mean afterall we had that great canopy I bought at City Mill!

First dive was just Steve and I. About halfway through, we saw something big in the distance so I busted ass and sure enough it was a spotted eagle ray. I’ve never seen one at Sharks Cove before….. YES! I should have prepared myself for another thing I have never seen there before…..

I was in for a surprise too, because not only did we see a white tip shark, but on our next dive we ran into TWO spotted eagle rays and a smaller shark hanging out around the sand…… What a day of FIRSTS!

Nice work on the grill Ben and Jay. Here’s a few more snaps. One of Steve inside one of the swimthroughs and another of a happy looking fellow.

Have a great week everyone…

Turn Out The Lights!

Great Night Dive!

JJ, Sam, Chris, Lonnie, Tammy and Dave joined me for a trip out to Baby Barge last night.

With all divers stoked and the sun going down, we headed into some stiff current on Baby Barge. All solid divers so nothing to worry about. I spotted two helmet shells and no less than 6 massive turtles. Even though we didn’t make it to the shark cave, JJ spotted one deep in the turtle cave. I guess it pays to have a supah bright light, because I checked the cave a few minutes before him and saw NADA!

After a long interval we cruised over to Anglers. So many critters tonight. We spied a Yellowhead Moray as it snapped up a fish…. lots of shrimp and crabs galore (7-11 and a few sponge crabs) I’m really stoked that this photo of the Spanish Dancer turned out too….

Big thanks to everyone diving and to Captain Joe.

See you on next weeks Night Dive?

Save $100

Let’s be honest…..

Who wouldn’t want to save $100. Gas prices the way they are, the cost of living here in Hawaii….. you know that extra hund-o in your pocket would be sweet.

That’s why I’m dropping the price on my Open Water course for the month of June. Instead of $395, I’m offering the full PADI course complete with books, DVD, cert fees, and full rental gear for only $295.

Now, I know that most of you on this list are already at least Open Water certified, but forward this info on to a friend, family member or co-worker…… as most of you know I rely on my great network of divers to tell others about my services. I love teaching and always need more students.

Think they might not be ready to shell out the dough for the OW class? Want to get them to try diving before commiting to the course. I’m knocking $25 off my intro dive price for the month of June too. Instead of $125, I can get your newbie out on a two tank guided dive complete with gear and all the training for only $100. Check around town, you won’t find a more dedicated dive professional offering such prices.

Book with the other guys if you must, but it’s always a crapshoot. You never know who the instructor is going to be that day. Wouldn’t you rather dive with a PADI instructor with over two years of full time diving experience here on Oahu. An instructor who certified over 100 divers in 2006 and wakes up every day stoked to go diving?

Finally, for those of you looking to take your diving to the next level (Advanced, Rescue, Nitrox etc) I’m offering 10% off courses for the entire summer as a thank you to being loyal FOKDers (Friends of Kaimana Divers)

Please bookmark my blog site at kaimanadivers.blogspot.com and check back for upcoming events. Also, to keep current with dives I have scheduled view my calendar on my myspace page at myspace.com/kaimanadivers

As always, feel free to call or email with any questions you might have…..

Thanks so much for your time and I look forward to seeing ALL of you sometime soon!
